Shetland Seafood Quality Control

Shetland Seafood Quality Control (SSQC), based within the NAFC Marine Centre, was formed in 1985 as an independent quality assurance organisation to maintain and strengthen the Islands reputation for high quality seafood products.

The benefits of having an independently operated inspection service was recognised and embraced by those involved both in the white fish and salmon industries. SSQC has expanded from a one man operation in 1985, to an organisation that now employs 14 staff.

The company offers auditing, testing and environmental services relating to aquaculture production, processor food safety, and application and monitoring of best practice within the seafood industry, carried out by specialist staff.  Services include:
