Director's Blog

Thank you for all of the emails asking when my next blog entry was going to be! I apologise for not getting on here sooner but it has been a busy time of year for us.
We have just finished preparing our full set of audited accounts for the last financial year which I will be presenting to the Annual general Meeting of the Trust on Monday 2nd November. Whilst that has been going on we have been undertaking our 6 month budget spend review and have started work on preparing our budget submission for the next 3 years which will be presented to the Shetland Island Council Development Committee in January 2010. This all sounds pretty boring I know but it is absoltuely crucial for the ongoing financial stability of The Marine Centre...and a key part of my job!
On a completely different note...after an absoltuely fantastic summer here in Shetland I think it would be fair to say that we've probably skipped Autumn altogether and have moved into the winter period. The days are getting shorter and the weather has become very changeable. We have had lovely days interspersed with what the locals call "blustery conditions"..which I have learnt actually means force 9 gails and horizontal heavy rain. Ferry services have been disrupted and many fishing vessels shot into Lerwick to wait out the worst of the weather. To be honest I'm not sure which I like better...the lovely luch green Shetland that I see in the summer or the fanastic, untamed, dynamic and powerful Islands that appear during the winter. Amazing.
