NEW INTAKE OF CADETS VISIT MV HJALTAND
The NAFC Marine Centre’s new intake of students undertaking the Deck Cadet Training Programme paid a visit to NorthLink Ferries’ MV Hjaltland recently. The group was shown around the ship by Captain Stuart Gunn.
Accompanying the students, nautical lecturer, Mark Fullerton, said: “The cadets have already experienced an intensive induction to their course with a particular focus on health and safety issues, and the trip on board ship has given them the opportunity to see, first hand, the relevance of their early training from a practical and operational point of view.
“One of the highlights of the visit was learning how the gravity davit for launching the lifeboat operates – an operation that the cadets will need to be familiar with before they go to sea later this year.
“The cadets really appreciated the very informative day provided by the captain and first mate of MV Hjaltland.”
Next week the new intake of engineering cadets will visit the ship accompanied by engineering lecturer, Howard Thomson.
The NAFC Marine Centre is very grateful to the staff and crew at NorthLink Ferries for providing this valuable local learning experience.
