NAFC MARINE CENTRE HAS NEW CHAIR

Following a recent meeting of its management board - Shetland Fisheries Training Centre Trust - the NAFC Marine Centre has confirmed that Iris Hawkins has been appointed chairperson.  Fellow councillors Sandy Cluness, Leslie Angus, Betty Fullerton, Josie Simpson and Jim Henry will join Cllr Hawkins as nominated Shetland Islands Council trustees.

Also serving as trustees on the board are industry representatives Hansen Black, chief executive of Shetland Fishermen’s Association; Ruth Henderson, chief executive of Seafood Shetland; David Sandison, general manager of Shetland Aquaculture and, independent representative, Arthur Nicolson.

Commenting on her new appointment, Cllr Hawkins, said: “I am very pleased to have been appointed chair of Shetland Fisheries Training Centre Trust.

“The NAFC Marine Centre offers an invaluable service to the seafood and other marine related industries in Shetland and, in turn, the wider Shetland economy.  We need to make sure that the people of Shetland fully recognise that contribution.

“I am very keen to establish a three year funding package for the Centre, which would put its activities on a much firmer footing.”
