Superior Quality Shetland Salmon

Shetland Seafood Quality Control's Certification Scheme for Superior Quality Shetland Salmon (SQSS) was accredited to EN 45011, the internationally recognised standard for product certification, by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) in September 2000.

Scottish Food Quality Certification Ltd (SFQC) is the independent organisation responsible for certifying the SQSS assurance scheme.

The scheme permits the use of the SSQC logo on salmon and salmon products. This provides the customer with the assurance that best practice has been applied at all stages in the production process and provides a safe, legal and fully traceable quality product.

White Fish Quality Improvement Scheme

The White Fish Quality Improvement Scheme was set up to maintain high standards of quality of white fish landed in Shetland.

This initiative involved regular inspection if the catches landed at Shetland's fish markets. The fish are assessed against a range of key quality parameters, and feedback is provided to the boats. The quality information is also displayed on the boxes of fish for the benefit of fish buyers.
